Magic can be broken into High and Common
High Magic is the work of Gods and Wizards, and take great power, great sacrifice, or a little bit of column a and column b. High Magic is bound to history and children’s tales, in ancient archives and deep tombs.
Common is the magic that mortals are bound to, and is broken by classification into Inherent, Bloodright, and Ritual.
- Inherent is what magical creatures, plants, and Mages call upon. (All humans have some level of magical talent, but like a muscle it must be exercised; and some are far more inclined towards magic than the average person.)
- Bloodright is bloodline magic, somewhere in a person’s family line something magical mingled into the blood, and now some descendants have power that reflects that. Dragon-men, witch-kin, the Sunscorned, are all examples.
- Ritual magic attempts to bridge the gap between High magic, Inherent, and Bloodright. Combination of the Common talents can lead to powerful ritual cast spells.
